Affinity Writing and Editing Services

This is your basic proofread package. We’ll fix typos, spelling, and grammar. This is the perfect choice for you if your manuscript has already been heavily edited and fine-tuned. We’ll give it a thorough read-through and eliminate redundancies and over-used words, trim sentences, as well as flag some larger issues you may have overlooked. Basically, we’ll give your work the final polish it needs to get it ready for publishing.

1st Round: We’ll start with a quick read-through to identify any glaring issues. We’ll provide a basic copy edit, flag problem areas, and make suggestions for parts that could use some work as well as areas we feel should be re-worked or re-written. It’s important that as writers, we understand that first drafts are never our best work, and we won’t sugar-coat it. We’re here to help you write your best work, and sometimes that means handing out a little tough love. We’ll point out the not-so-interesting parts and information dumps that need trimming, areas that could be stronger, plot issues or holes, and provide story arc and structural analysis. Once you’re satisfied with your revisions, we can move on to round two.

2nd Round: You’ve re-worked and revised to your satisfaction, and now you’re ready for comprehensive, in-depth line and developmental editing. This includes working on story plotting, pacing, and organization, syntax and word choice, and clarity. We’ll improve the dialogue and tags, remove clichés, and help to strengthen the tropes. We’ll continue to flag issues that require some serious work, and we’ll leave you with a lot of feedback and comments to help guide you to the best version of your manuscript possible.

Note: We do recommend a final proof or beta read-through once you’ve completed all of the changes and you’re satisfied with the final outcome. This can be done through Affinity, or if you’re more comfortable with another set of eyes, we’re more than happy to recommend one of our literary industry colleagues for you!

We start off with the Exemplary package, but then follow through with a final inspection after you’ve reviewed all of our edits and re-worked or re-written any sections you felt needed work. Let’s be honest, it’s hard to stop making changes once we get started! When you feel like it’s ready to roll, we’ll give it a last round of proofreading to catch any remaining typos, errors, or inconsistencies. This is basically a more intense version of our Elemental package, where we’ll really focus on the details and make sure your diamond-in-the-rough has been polished to a gleaming sparkle.

Maybe you’ve just finished your first draft and you’re getting ready for your first round of edits and need some help pointing out the problem areas. Or, maybe you’ve done extensive editing and you’re ready to publish, but you need that honest, no BS review to make sure you’re on the right track. This is where the Twisted Beta package comes in.

This is your budget-friendly, hands-off, full manuscript review. Although we won’t be doing any editing here, we will be highlighting any areas that require work, and leaving you comments and suggestions throughout, as well as a final no-holds-barred review.

Be warned, this is not for the faint of heart. We know your manuscript is your baby and you’re probably feeling quite protective of it; we get it, we’re writers too! But you also want to make sure you’re ready to present your absolute best work to agents and publishers. And if you’re going the self-publishing route, you want to ensure you’re putting your best work out there – readers will know if you took shortcuts, and their ratings and reviews will reflect that. Do yourself a solid and cover all bases before you go to print, you won’t regret it!

Think of the last time you read a book. You probably decided within the first five to ten pages whether or not you would read it or shelve it. It doesn’t matter if you got a free advance copy, or if you spent your hard-earned money on it; if the first chapter doesn’t draw you in and keep you interested, odds are you’re not going to finish it, and you definitely won’t recommend it.

You want to make sure your readers are hooked from the get-go. This is where the Sleighride comes in – it’s an in-depth, honest, BS-free critique of the first chapter (or up to 5000 words) of your manuscript. If we love it, we’ll tell you. If we don’t love it, we’ll still tell you, but we’ll also comment and suggest on what could be improved in order to turn those lack-luster first pages into a hook, line, and sinker for your potential readers.

Sometimes, regardless of our best intensions, we just can’t do it on our own. In this, our most intensive package, we’ll be taking a tandem ride together down the literary yellow brick road. Affinity doesn’t offer a full ghostwriting package because we strongly believe that a writer’s work should reflect back on their own effort. That being said, we know it can be hard – life gets busy, we get flustered, and some of us are procrastination kings and queens.

This is where the Tandem package comes in. This is a collaboration – a meeting of minds. As the writer, it’s still your story to tell, we’re just here to be your not-so-silent partners. This involves more in-depth editing, and much more intense re-writing on our part. We will keep as much of your original writing as we can, but here is where we strive to improve the overall work as much as possible.

This package includes everything offered in the Transcending option, with the added bonus of having a writing partner.
